Brooklyn art exhibit features beauty of graffiti

An exhibition on display in Williamsburg features the kind of artwork you’d once only find on buildings and trains. Actress Rosie Perez opened Beyond the Streets, an effort that was curated in part by artist, producer and filmmaker Sacha Jenkins. “I grew up in this this movement, it was fascinating, it was daring, it was dangerous and it was pure art,” Perez said. The movement started with kids and teens spray-painting their names or tagging.

Boy, 11, wounded along with man when gunman opens fire in Brooklyn

Police say two people who were not the intended targets, including an 11-year-old boy, were shot in Brooklyn. According to the NYPD, a gunman opened fire at about 7 p.m. Thursday on Schenectady Avenue in Crown Heights, trying to shoot another person 50 feet away, but missed. The boy and a 31-year-old man who were both standing on the sidewalk in the vicinity of a nearby supermarket were struck by bullets.
The boy was shot in the torso and was taken to Kings County Hospital, where he was listed in stable condition after surgery. ABC7 New York video

Brooklyn Arson Suspect Arrested

Matthew Karelefsky has been identified as the man accused of arson and attempted murder  . Pittsburgh man charged with destroying three homes in Brooklyn over a reported feud with a Rabbi Max. The four-alarm fire burned three homes on Thursday, June 13, and injured 13 people.  “He’s been making threats against Rabbi Max for years,” a friend said. “As a last resort, he told a friend that he was gonna spread false rumors that he was molested by him.
