Michael Gerard Grimm – Grimm represented New York’s 13th congressional district during his first term, after which he represented New York’s 11th congressional district. Both districts consisted of Staten Island and parts of Brooklyn. Grimm is a member of the Republican Party, and during his time in office was the only Republican to represent a significant portion of New York City. He is a former FBI agent, businessman, convicted felon, attorney, and U.S. Marine, having served in the Persian Gulf War.
Many of the classic skyscrapers that define New York City’s skyline have their design roots in a monumental 1916 zoning law, which established “setback” requirements for buildings above a certain height.
