“The Airbus A300 headed for the Dominican Republic, but crashed after taking off from John F. Kennedy International Airport, killing all 260 passengers and five on the ground in the second most deadly aviation accident in US history.
The location of the crash and the fact that it happened just two months after 9/11 caused another fear of a terrorist attack, but NTSB investigators said the plane’s rudder system and inadequate pilot training caused the crash.
