Family killed in Mexico: First funerals Thursday for Americans slain by drug cartel gunmen

Under a strong security presence, this remote farming community prepared to hold the first funerals Thursday for some of the nine American women and children killed by drug cartel gunmen. Dozens of high-riding pickups and SUVS, many with U.S. license plates from as far away as North Dakota, bumped across dirt and rock roads over desert, arid grasslands and pine-covered mountains Wednesday as night fell on this community of about 300 people.

Bystander wrestles gun from suspect after Bronx juice bar worker shot

Police are searching for the gunman who hurt two men inside a Bronx juice bar, an incident in which one man was shot and the other pistol-whipped. It happened inside the Heath Juice Bar on Adee Avenue in the Allerton section around 10:30 p.m. Wednesday. Police say a man walked into the store and shot the 30-year-old worker in the chest….

NYC shelter residents suing city after eating expired food, getting violently ill

Residents of a Brooklyn homeless shelter who say they caught food poisoning from expired chicken salad that was intentionally mislabeled are suing the city. The four victims — 64-year-old Kenneth Gilmore, 32-year-old Pierre Landro, 31-year-old Rose Rodriguez, and 43-year-old Mauricio Caballero – claim they got violently ill after eating the food at the Fort Greene Shelter that allegedly had a new sticker put over an expired one that showed the food was still good.

Farmers say 106-pound NYPD pot bust was actually legal hemp
