Surge pricing for taxis to be proposed in NY City Council

Changes could be on the way for taxi drivers and passengers in New York City if a proposal being introduced in New York City Council Friday becomes law. The most notable of those changes would be surge pricing. If you have ever ordered an Uber or Lyft ride while it’s raining, you know how surge pricing works: the price goes up when demand is higher. City council will consider whether taxis should be allowed to do the same thing.

Woman sexually assaulted on Upper East Side; surveillance shows attacker

A woman was sexually assaulted on Manhattan’s Upper East Side. It happened on January 20th around 11:35 p.m. as the woman stood at 77th Street and York Avenue. A man approached the woman and groped the 21-year-old, reaching inside her pants and grabbing her chest. He eventually ran away.

Video shows woman being slashed at subway station in East Harlem

Police are searching for the man who slashed a woman across the face in a Manhattan subway station.
Video shows the attack inside the 4/5/6 station at 125th Street in East Harlem. It happened just before 10:30 p.m. Monday.
Police say the 33-year-old victim was panhandling and asked the man for money, when he pulled out a sharp object and slashed her twice across the face. The suspect then ran off.

Intruder caught on camera robbing NJ home, while mother, 2 daughters hide in fear

A burglar was caught on camera ransacking a home in New Jersey, while a mother and her two daughters hid in fear. Police say the incident happened at a home on West End Place in Elizabeth on Sunday night, while 43-year-old Claudio Rocha and her 5-year-old daughter were asleep. According to officials, Rocha’s 15-year-old daughter heard noises in the house and checked the family’s security cameras. Police say when she checked the cameras, Rocha’s daughter saw a man wearing a white hoodie and black pants rummaging through the house. The 15-year-old called her mom on her cell phone to tell her about the intruder.
