Demonstrators gather in Portland on Tuesday, July 28 (Monday, July 27 – local), for a new round of protests over the presence and methods of federal forces detaining demonstrators. The rallies, which started in late May following the death of George Floyd, gained traction over the past few days as tensions between demonstrators and federal officers escalated. During Friday and Saturday protests, federal officers used tear gas to try to disperse a large crowd of protesters outside Mark O. Hatfield Federal Courthouse after multiple fireworks were aimed at the building by demonstrators. Protesters also pushed a fence built around the building and threw objects over it.
