Protest Against Schools Closing in NYC as Coronavirus Cases Rise

Children and adults gathered today (November 14th) in Foley Square to protest the possible closing of schools in New York City on Monday. As Coronavirus cases rise in New York City and predicted to surpass 3% seven-day average by next week, the threshold at which schools would to be closed. Governor Cuomo, however, pushed back against Mayor Bill de Blasio’s suggestion of closing schools, saying that instead of shutting down all school systems, close them on a school-by-school basis. Mayor de Blasio set the 3% threshold for closing schools back in July, a marker which was agreed to by the State and the United Federation of Teachers union.
