American financier George Soros announced plans,… to pour another 300-to-500 (m) million U-S dollars in philanthropic aid into Russia – with a new emphasis on health and military reform.
Soros has told reporters he would focus his philanthropic efforts in Russia on eight areas that the government is unable to adequately fund.
“During that decade, he has spent more than 350 (m) million U-S dollars here, much of it on programmes to shore up Russia’s scientific community, introduce Internet access and support education. At the same time, he has recently begun heavily investing in Russia’s emerging market economy, to the tune of an estimated two (b) billion dollars.”
