FDNY: 2 Homes On Fire After Explosion In Brooklyn

Gas Explosion on Bay 35 Street and Benson Avenue

Some 100 Firefighter are working at Benson Avenue and Bay 35 Street after a gas explosion at one of the houses. My office has been contacted by National Grid which is on the scene working with FDNY.

One house totally collapsed and neighboring houses were also damaged. Thank you National Grid for contacting my office so quickly.

Although there is no confirmation of injuries at this time, we should pray for all the families effected by this tragic explosion.

Everyone should be reminded that if you smell gas, get out immediately and once safely outside call 911. Do not flip on lights or use cell phones while inside the premises. Be careful while cooking not to allow open gas ranges to be left unattended. Have child proof devices on gas knobs to prevent them from being turned on by accident. The safety of you and all neighborhood families is of the upmost importance
