Ukraine’s UN ambassador reads texts from Russian soldier to mother before he was killed

Ukraine’s ambassador to the United Nations, Sergiy Kyslytsya, has read aloud a text message exchange between a Russian solider in Ukraine and his mother before he was killed.
“Mama, I’m in Ukraine. There is a real war raging here. I’m afraid, We are bombing all of the cities, together. Even targeting civilians,”

In the text message exchange, the Russian soldier’s mother asks her son why it has been so long since he last responded and if she can send him a parcel. He responds that he’s in Ukraine and “wants to hang himself”.

“We were told that they [Ukrainians] would welcome us but they are falling under our armoured vehicles, throwing themselves under the wheels and not allowing us to pass. They call us fascists. Mama, this is so hard,”
