NYC proposes minimum pay rate for app-based restaurant delivery workers – $23.82 per hour

New York City is proposing the nation’s first minimum pay rate for app-based restaurant delivery workers. Now, restaurant and cafe meal delivery workers work as independent contractors and do not have a steady paycheck, and meal delivery workers allegedly earn less than $8 an hour-if you don’t count tips. The new base hourly rate is proposed at $23.82.
New law could affect about 60,000 delivery workers and will be debated Dec. 16, 2022
