Ari Kagan won the Republican primary in New York City with a landslide 75 percent of voters voted for the former Democrat who deliberately switched to the Republican Party. The Russian-speaking immigrant from the Soviet Union – who was born in Belarus and graduated from a college in Ukraine – is the only New York City Councilman who does not own a car and uses public transportation – subways and buses – every day. Ari Kagan advocates for ordinary New Yorkers, legal residents and for legal emigrants – as he himself went through emigration and refugee status from the socialist state of the USSR – where Jews were persecuted on the basis of nationality and engaging in private business for profit was a criminal offense.
In the video the winner is greeted by two Russian-speaking members of the New York State Assembly, Alec Brook-Krasny and Michael Novakhov.
