The purpose of the briefing held by Mayor Eric Adams was to discuss heavy rainfall and ongoing flooding in New York City
The briefing was held to update New Yorkers on the situation and advise them to take caution. NY State Governor Kathy Hochul also declared a state of emergency due to the flash flood warning
. The flooding caused widespread outages and delays on the MTA, the agency that runs the city’s transit system. Approximately 150 school buildings were flooded, but the city’s public schools remained open.
