Tom Fitton, President of Judicial Watch, joined ‘Greg Kelly Reports’ on Newsmax TV to delve into the wrongful death lawsuit filed by Judicial Watch against the U.S. Government. This lawsuit represents the family of Ashli Babbitt, the U.S. Air Force veteran tragically shot and killed within the confines of the U.S. Capitol by then-Capitol Police Lt. Michael Byrd on January 6, 2021.
Ashli Babbitt, a United States Air Force veteran with 12 years of service, tragically lost her life on January 6, 2021, during the assault on the United States Capitol. Babbitt, among a group of supporters of then-President Donald Trump, breached the Capitol seeking to challenge the 2020 election results.
While attempting to climb through a shattered window near a barricaded door into the Speaker’s Lobby, Babbitt was shot in the left shoulder by a Capitol Police officer. Despite emergency aid by the Capitol Police response team, she was transported to Washington Hospital Center where she later passed away.
The Capitol Police ruled the shooting as ‘lawful and within Department policy,’ asserting it potentially prevented severe harm or fatalities among Congressional members and staff. Babbitt, a former supporter of Barack Obama, expressed admiration for Obama’s achievements and later shifted her political allegiance to the Libertarian and Republican parties due to frustrations with issues such as homelessness in San Diego and the challenges of running a small business.
