Statement from President Joe Biden on New Clean Energy Jobs
President Joe Biden highlights the creation of over 330,000 new clean energy jobs since the Inflation Reduction Act, many of which are union jobs that don’t require a college degree. These jobs are driving a manufacturing boom, lowering energy costs for families, and expanding access to clean energy sources like wind and solar. Despite House Republicans’ attempts to repeal these policies, Biden remains committed to fighting for affordable energy and good-paying jobs for American families.
When I think of combatting the climate crisis, I think of good-paying jobs for American workers. According to a new report released this week, in the two years since I signed the Inflation Reduction Act into law, companies have announced more than 330,000 new clean energy jobs. Many of these jobs are good-paying, union jobs that do not require a college degree, including electricians, construction workers, and mechanics working on innovative clean energy projects. Thanks to my Administration’s policies, these new jobs are driving a manufacturing boom and lowering costs for families by increasing access to affordable, clean energy—including wind and solar energy.
Despite this progress, House Republicans want to take our country backward and have voted dozens of times to repeal these transformative policies—even though more than half of these jobs are being created in their districts. I will continue fighting for American families by lowering utility bills and increasing access to good-paying, union jobs.

In a free state, the primary role of the government is to create an environment where businesses can thrive without undue interference. From this perspective, it could be argued that the government’s role should not be to dictate which types of energy are considered “clean” or “dirty.” Instead, the market should determine the most efficient and effective energy sources based on demand, innovation, and competition.
Labeling certain energy sources as “clean” and others as “dirty” could be seen as an arbitrary and potentially restrictive action by the government, which may stifle innovation and hinder businesses from exploring a full range of energy solutions. All energy, when utilized responsibly, serves a purpose, and the focus should be on ensuring that energy—regardless of its source—is used ethically and efficiently.
Moreover, government-driven job creation, particularly through policies that favor specific industries, raises concerns about the sustainability and authenticity of those jobs. Jobs created as a result of market demand and business innovation tend to be more sustainable and resilient, as they are driven by genuine economic need rather than government intervention.
The statement could be critiqued for promoting a form of state intervention that may inadvertently distort the market by favoring certain industries over others. This approach could lead to unintended consequences, such as reduced competition, limited consumer choice, and a potential misallocation of resources.
In summary, while the creation of jobs is a positive outcome, the means by which these jobs are created—through targeted government policies—can be questioned from the standpoint of free-market principles. A truly free market would allow businesses to innovate and grow without government-imposed labels on energy types, focusing instead on responsible and ethical use of energy across all sectors.
