Arizona was one of the first states to adopt no excuse, absentee voting back in 1996. The man who ran the early voting program back then in Maricopa County still works there; and he says their county was uniquely prepared to handle any surges in mail in voting during the pandemic this year. We have interviews and broll filmed with some of the key figures in Maricopa County’s election process to look at how they are preparing to hold safe elections this year; both by mail and in person. Elections officials and the president of a local ballot printing company all agree: if counties haven’t ordered their mail in ballots by the beginning of August, there won’t be enough time to print them if they change their mind later this fall.
