Ilhan Omar Wins Reelection With 76.48% as Federal Investigation Continues

3 min read

MINNEAPOLIS, Nov. 5, 2026 — Rep. Ilhan Omar won another term representing Minnesota’s 5th Congressional District with 76.48% of the vote, according to the Minnesota Secretary of State’s unofficial results. The victory comes weeks after federal agents searched her Washington, D.C., residence in connection with an investigation into immigration paperwork. The election outcome and the legal inquiry are separate matters.

Official Minnesota election results

With all 217 precincts reporting, the state listed Omar at 262,702 votes (76.48%), Republican John Nagel at 55,765 (16.23%), independent DeVelle L. Jackson at 24,110 (7.02%) and write-in candidates at 931 votes (0.27%). The results were updated Nov. 5 at 9:38 a.m. and remain unofficial pending certification, scheduled for Nov. 19.

What the federal investigation involves

On Oct. 12, Homeland Security Investigations executed a judicially authorized search warrant at Omar’s Washington-area residence. The Department of Justice described it as part of an ongoing federal criminal investigation. Public reporting has linked the inquiry to alleged false statements in decades-old immigration documents. A search is an investigative step, not a criminal conviction.

Omar’s office condemned the search as politically motivated and said the congresswoman had done nothing wrong. The official response is available from Rep. Omar’s congressional office.

Viral video claims the inquiry is expanding

A Nov. 5 video by UnwokeThoughts argues that the probe has expanded and includes commentary attributed to Fox News legal analyst Gregg Jarrett. The speaker also speculates about prosecution and denaturalization following Omar’s reelection. These are claims and opinions in a commentary video, not judicial findings. Midtown Tribune could not independently verify a new Nov. 5 DHS or DOJ announcement confirming the asserted expansion. Nor has the video established that Omar participated in any fraud.

Does reelection confer immunity?

No. Winning an election does not immunize a member of Congress against federal criminal investigation or prosecution. The Constitution’s Speech or Debate Clause protects legislative acts, but does not offer blanket immunity for unrelated alleged criminal conduct. Investigators must nevertheless respect legislative privilege and other constitutional safeguards.

Could a naturalized citizen be deported?

The video raises the possibility of denaturalization and deportation. That is not an automatic consequence of an investigation or even a disputed immigration record. Revocation of citizenship involves legal proceedings and proof of grounds specified in 8 U.S.C. § 1451, with due-process protections. Omar remains a U.S. citizen; no finding of denaturalization has been established here.

What is confirmed — and what is not

  • Confirmed: Omar received 76.48% of the unofficial district vote.
  • Confirmed: Federal investigators searched her residence on Oct. 12; her office denied wrongdoing.
  • Not established: That a Nov. 5 official announcement expanded the investigation, that Omar committed fraud, or that deportation is imminent.

Voters have returned Omar to Congress. The government’s obligation to support any accusations with admissible evidence — and Omar’s right to contest them — remain unchanged. Election results neither prove innocence nor establish guilt.
