Midtown Tribune follows a source-first editorial model: we publish information only when we can trace, attribute, and verify it. For public policy, civic services, transportation, housing, business, culture, and institutional news, we prioritize primary materials from New York City, New York State, and U.S. government agencies, public institutions, official records, and organizations directly responsible for the subject. We link readers to the underlying sources so they can examine the evidence for themselves.
Archive material may help us identify a legacy topic, publication date, or URL, but we do not copy archived reporting or reuse archived media unless the rights are verified. Archive-restoration articles are newly written and include a transparent provenance disclosure.
Original Reporting from New York City
Our correspondents also produce original reporting and original video from New York City. We identify the author or correspondent whenever possible and preserve relevant authorship, date, location, and source information. Firsthand material is reviewed for context and accuracy before publication, and original Midtown Tribune footage is clearly distinguished from externally published source video.
Official Video Sources and Local Transcription
Official agencies and public institutions sometimes publish valuable information on YouTube without captions or a transcript. Midtown Tribune uses a locally operated speech-recognition program on our own computer to create a timestamped working transcript from a specific official YouTube video. The program records the canonical video URL, Video ID, source metadata, timestamps, and technical provenance so an editor can trace the research material back to the exact video.
A machine-generated transcript is a research aid, not proof that every statement is correct. We review important passages against the video at their timestamps, clearly attribute the video and speaker, and independently verify consequential factual claims through official documents or other primary sources whenever available. We do not describe automated transcripts as official transcripts, and we do not republish third-party video or transcript content beyond what is legally and editorially appropriate.

OUR HISTORY
We are not The New York Tribune – We Are New York Midtown Tribune !
The New-York Tribune was an American newspaper, first established by Horace Greeley in 1841. Between 1842 and 1866, the newspaper bore the name New-York Daily Tribune. From the 1840s through the 1860s it was the dominant Whig Party and then Republican newspaper in the U.S. The paper achieved a circulation of approximately 200,000 during the decade of the 1850s, making it the largest in New York City and perhaps the nation. The Tribune’s editorials were widely read and helped shape national opinion….
The Tribune did reflect some of Horace Greeley’s idealist views. The journal retained Karl Marx as its London-based European correspondent in 1852. The arrangement provided Marx with much needed income during a period of his life in which his friend and collaborator Friedrich Engels could only provide limited financial support. The arrangement, whereby Engels also submitted articles under Marx’s by-line, lasted ten years, with the final Marx column being published in February 1862.
During Greeley’s editorship, the paper was aided by able writers including Charles Anderson Dana,George William Curtis, William Henry Fry, Bayard Taylor, Margaret Fuller, George Ripley, Julius Chambers and Henry Jarvis Raymond.
