The NY State Senate passed a lot of bills the week of May 13-17th : The Senate voted to approve a bundle of traffic safety bills…including allowing school bus cameras to be used to catch drivers passing stopped school buses and requiring that everyone in a car use a seat belt.
The Senate also passed a bill requiring people to pass a boat safety course before renting or buying a watercraft.
Another big focus was on our troops. The Senate passed seven bills concentrating on our veterans and those on active duty…including bills providing tax exemptions for veterans, a bill giving military students’ academic credit for their service, and a bill that establishes a crisis hotline number for service members.
The Senate also passed bills adding more protections for survivors of domestic abuse including allowing someone to file a report at any police station in the state and prohibiting employers from discriminating against survivors of abuse. Official NY Senate video
