President Biden Issues Directive Granting Defense Authority, Aligning with National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2024
President Joseph R. Biden Jr. issued a directive on February 16, 2024, concerning the delegation of authority pursuant to Section 1230 of the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2024 (Public Law 118-31). This directive grants the authority to the Secretary of Defense, in consultation with the Secretary of State and, when necessary, the Attorney General, to submit the mandated report to specific congressional committees as stipulated by Section 1230 of the aforementioned Act.
The directive further clarifies that this delegation of authority extends to any analogous provisions in subsequent public laws. Moreover, the Secretary of Defense is duly authorized and instructed to publish this directive in the Federal Register.
