New Project: Legal Aid for Community Media CCM is launching a partnership with the Cornell Law School First Amendment Clinic to connect journalists and outlets in the community media sector to a national network of 26 legal clinics and advocacy organizations dedicated to protecting press freedom, called the Free Expression Legal Network (FELN). Cornell’s First Amendment Clinic sits on FELN’s steering committee, along with representatives from the Reporters Committee for Freedom of the Press (RCFP), law school clinics at Yale, Berkeley, Washington University in St. Louis, and Cleveland-Marshall, and related programs at the University of Minnesota and the Northwestern Pritzker School of Law. Through FELN, community media outlets and journalists can be connected with free legal support for the wide range of challenges they face – such as infringement of their First-Amendment rights, freedom-of-information and libel cases, and even immigration. To learn more about FELN or its constituent members, visit freeexpression.law or contact Josh Moore, Program Attorney at the RCFP; or Mark H. Jackson or Heather E. Murray at the Cornell Law School First Amendment Clinic. The RCFP also has a hotline for journalists, who wish to be connected to a local attorney. You can reach the hotline by calling 800-336-4243 or emailing hotline@rcfp.org. |
