Free concerts, dance performances, family activities and outdoor entertainment across Manhattan and Brooklyn
New York City offers an unusually strong lineup of free cultural events on Wednesday, July 29, 2026, including a major SummerStage concert in Central Park, performances by some of the city’s most celebrated dance companies, waterfront music-making in Brooklyn and family programs in Midtown and Riverside Park.
From Latin pop and ballet to giant bubbles and an outdoor community choir, here are eight of the most interesting free events happening across New York City.

1. Julieta Venegas, Lasso and Micro TDH at Central Park SummerStage

One of the biggest free concerts of the day brings acclaimed Mexican-American singer-songwriter Julieta Venegas to the SummerStage venue at Rumsey Playfield.
The lineup also features Venezuelan artists Lasso and Micro TDH, along with DJ Anamaria Sayre. The concert is presented in association with the Latin Alternative Music Conference and The Latin Recording Academy.
Venegas is known for combining Latin pop, rock and alternative music with accordion-driven arrangements and deeply personal songwriting.
The official SummerStage schedule lists the concert from 6:00 p.m. until 10:00 p.m., with doors opening at 5:00 p.m. Admission is free and open to all ages. Because seating and standing space are limited, arriving early is strongly recommended.
2. BAAND Together Dance Festival at Lincoln Center
Time: 7:30 p.m.
Location: David H. Koch Theater, Lincoln Center
Running time: Approximately one hour
Free ticket distribution: 5:00 p.m.
The BAAND Together Dance Festival brings five major New York dance institutions together on one stage:

The performance offers audiences a rare opportunity to experience several different traditions of American dance during a single evening.
Lincoln Center says up to two free day-of rush tickets per person will be distributed at the theater box office beginning at 5:00 p.m. Tickets are available on a first-come, first-served basis. The performance begins at 7:30 p.m.
Those who want free rush tickets should arrive well before the distribution time because demand is likely to be high.
3. Skyline CircleSing at Brooklyn Bridge Park
Time: 7:00 p.m.–9:30 p.m.
Location: Pier 3 Greenway Terrace, Brooklyn Bridge Park
Admission: Free
Skyline CircleSing is not a traditional concert. Instead of simply watching performers, visitors become part of a large improvised choir overlooking the East River and the Manhattan skyline.
Facilitators from the Gaia Music Collective introduce different vocal patterns, rhythms and harmonies to sections of the crowd. The individual parts are then layered into an evolving collective composition.
No formal singing experience is required. The official Brooklyn Bridge Park schedule describes the event as an evening of spontaneous harmonies, soulful songs and playful explorations of rhythm and melody.
The waterfront setting makes this one of the most unusual and visually memorable events of the evening.
4. Ballet Hispánico Family Dance Workshop
Time: 5:00 p.m.
Location: Karen and Richard LeFrak Lobby, David Geffen Hall
Admission: Free
Format: Indoor and family-friendly
Before the evening BAAND performance, Ballet Hispánico New York will lead a free family dance workshop at Lincoln Center.
Professional instructors will introduce children and their families to Latin social dance traditions. Previous dance training is not required, making the workshop appropriate for beginners and younger participants.
Lincoln Center lists the program as an indoor, family-friendly event in the LeFrak Lobby of David Geffen Hall.
This is also one of the better choices for families seeking an activity that will not be disrupted by rain.
5. Dance Storytime: The Story of Alvin Ailey

Running time: Approximately 50 minutes
Dancer and educator Lisa Johnson-Willingham will lead two interactive Dance Storytime sessions exploring dance and the life and legacy of choreographer Alvin Ailey.
The program combines storytelling and movement, giving children an accessible introduction to one of the most influential figures in American modern dance.
The event is presented by Lincoln Center in collaboration with the New York Public Library for the Performing Arts. Both the 11:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. sessions are scheduled indoors at David Geffen Hall.
6. Esther Crow at the Hippo Playground Summer Concert Series
Time: 3:30 p.m.–4:30 p.m.
Location: Hippo Playground, Riverside Park
Admission: Free
Singer and musician Esther Crow will perform as part of the Hippo Playground Summer Concert Series on Manhattan’s Upper West Side.
Crow’s family-oriented shows combine rock music, humor, environmental themes and audience participation. The relaxed playground setting makes the concert especially suitable for parents with younger children.
NYC Parks officially lists Esther Crow as the featured performer for the July 29 installment of the summer concert series.
Families can combine the performance with a walk through Riverside Park or along the Hudson River waterfront.
7. Midtown Music at Greeley Square Park
Time: 2:30 p.m.–5:30 p.m.
Location: Greeley Square Park, Broadway between West 32nd and West 33rd Streets

Midtown Music offers three hours of live entertainment in one of Manhattan’s busiest commercial districts.
The event is particularly convenient for people visiting Herald Square, Koreatown, Penn Station or the Empire State Building. Visitors can stop by for a short performance rather than remaining for the entire program.

8. Giant Bubble Show at Greeley Square Park
Time: 12:30 p.m.–2:30 p.m.
Location: Greeley Square Park
Admission: Free
Earlier in the day, Greeley Square Park will host its Giant Bubble program, featuring oversized soap bubbles and interactive entertainment.
The activity is designed primarily for families and young children, although the colorful display is likely to attract anyone passing through the area.
NYC Parks lists the Giant Bubble program from 12:30 p.m. until 2:30 p.m., immediately before the Midtown Music program at the same location.
That makes it possible to attend two free events without traveling to another neighborhood.

For a major outdoor concert, Julieta Venegas at Central Park SummerStage is the strongest choice.
Dance audiences should consider arriving early for the free rush-ticket distribution for the BAAND Together Dance Festival.
For something interactive and distinctly New York, Skyline CircleSing at Brooklyn Bridge Park combines music, community participation and one of the city’s best waterfront views.
Families can spend much of the day at Lincoln Center or combine the Giant Bubble show with Midtown Music at Greeley Square Park.
