In its short satirical video “Mad Marx: A Terrifying Glimpse Into Our Future Under Socialism,” The Babylon Bee turns Mad Max into a crash course in political “redistribution.”
A tanker truck carrying precious gasoline races through a post-apocalyptic desert. The fuel was refined by the residents of a small settlement, who presumably made the old-fashioned mistake of working for it.
That is when the Office of Fairness and Equity arrives.
Its heavily armed representative, Brenda Gifford—also known as “Toe Cutter”—politely explains that the settlement cannot be allowed to “hoard” the gasoline it produced. The fuel must be redistributed to those who need it most.
Naturally, her office must take its share first.
After all, government redistributors need gasoline to travel around confiscating and redistributing everyone else’s gasoline. Without fuel for the bureaucracy, social justice might be forced to walk.
Whatever remains will reportedly go to the most deserving residents—or to those with the highest social-credit score.
The sharpest joke comes when Brenda explains why production has collapsed:
“As soon as we started redistributing wealth, they stopped making it.”
Instead of recognizing that confiscation destroyed the incentive to produce, she treats the disappearance of production as proof that producers could never be trusted.
The formula is simple:
First, take what people create.
Then, blame them when they stop creating it.
When the truck driver refuses to surrender the tanker, Brenda asks whether he has a permit for his shotgun. He says yes.
That, she reveals, was a trick question: her government does not issue weapons permits.
Why?
Because, as she calmly explains, redistribution is much easier when only the redistributors are armed.
The video never mentions New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani. Any comparison is political satire, not a claim that the fictional events depict his administration. Still, in a city where democratic socialism has acquired a highly recognizable public face, the parody may feel unusually relevant.
The Babylon Bee’s message is blunt: socialism often begins with promises of fairness, free services and shared prosperity. Then the authorities take control of the resources, reserve the first portion for themselves and blame capitalism when the supply disappears.
In Mad Marx, the gasoline is almost gone.
Fortunately, the Office of Fairness and Equity still has a full tank.
Someone has to keep driving around to make sure nobody is hoarding anything.
