VIDEO: Times Square Celebrates Spain’s World Cup Victory

The celebration continued in Times Square after Spain defeated Argentina in the 2026 FIFA World Cup Final. Fans carrying Spanish flags walked through the heart of Manhattan, chanting “Spain Number One” and celebrating the country’s historic championship victory.

Midtown Tribune returned to Times Square on Sunday night after Spain defeated Argentina in the 2026 FIFA World Cup Final. By approximately 9 p.m., the predictions were over, the result was official and the celebration had begun.

For several days, Argentina supporters had made their presence impossible to miss in Midtown Manhattan.

They walked through Times Square wearing blue-and-white jerseys, waving flags and confidently announcing:

“We are going to win!”

They repeated it in the streets, near the giant screens and throughout the Crossroads of the World.

After hearing the prediction often enough, a visitor might have assumed that the final was merely a formality.

Spain, however, had a different plan.

Spain Wins the Final

Spain defeated Argentina 1-0 after extra time, becoming world champion and ending Argentina’s effort to retain the title.

Argentina brought thousands of supporters, enormous flags and enough confidence to fill Times Square.

Spain brought home the trophy.

Sometimes football can be summarized very simply.

Spain’s Victory Celebration Continues in Times Square

The celebration continued late into the evening as Spain supporters and visitors filled Times Square with chants of “Spain Number One!”

Some people came specifically to celebrate Spain’s World Cup victory. Others simply joined the crowd, because in Times Square a major international celebration rarely requires a formal invitation.

Midtown Tribune captured the excitement, the chanting and the atmosphere in the heart of Manhattan.

Times Square at 9 p.m.: “Guess What? They Lost”

Midtown Tribune returned to Times Square at approximately 9 p.m., several hours after the final.

The billboards were still glowing. Tourists continued taking photographs. Traffic continued moving through Midtown with its usual combination of horns, lights and international diplomacy.

But one thing had changed: the confident predictions of an Argentina victory had suddenly become much quieter.

In our first video, the Midtown Tribune reporter described the dramatic reversal:

“For the past few days, Argentina supporters were walking around yelling, ‘We are going to win.’ And then, guess what? They lost.”

Argentina may have won the unofficial Times Square competition for chanting, flags and pregame confidence.

Spain won the football match.

As the old proverb warns:

“Do not tease the crocodile before you cross the river.”

On Sunday evening, the river was the World Cup Final.

Trump Presents the World Cup Trophy to Spain

Following the match at the New York–New Jersey stadium in East Rutherford, President Donald Trump joined FIFA President Gianni Infantino for the awards ceremony and presented the World Cup trophy to the victorious Spanish team.

Spain arrived in New York hoping to win the World Cup.

Argentina arrived with thousands of confident supporters.

Only one of them left with the trophy.
