Tyla Performs Free at Rockefeller Center
The day begins very early with South African singer Tyla, who is scheduled to perform as part of the TODAY show’s Citi Concert Series.
The outdoor performance takes place at the TODAY Plaza near Rockefeller Center. Admission is free. A Fan Pass may provide priority access, but members of the public can also join the general admission line.

This is an event for New Yorkers and visitors willing to begin the weekend before most coffee shops have finished setting up their chairs.

Free Lunchtime Piano in Bryant Park
After the Rockefeller Center concert, you can find breakfast, walk through Midtown and return to live music at lunchtime.
Bryant Park’s long-running Piano in Bryant Park series brings jazz, ragtime, stride and American popular music to the park’s Upper Terrace.
Pianist Russ Kassoff is scheduled to perform on July 24.

Lincoln Center’s evening program begins with Kung Fu Hip Hop 功夫街舞, a performance combining martial arts, street dance, theatrical movement and hip-hop culture.
The production brings the visual language of kung fu into a contemporary dance competition setting.

It is part of Lincoln Center’s Summer for the City festival, which turns the performing arts complex into one of Manhattan’s largest free outdoor cultural spaces.
West Harlem Summer Jazz Festival
Those looking for a neighborhood atmosphere rather than the crowds of Midtown can travel uptown to St. Nicholas Park.
The West Harlem Summer Jazz Festival will take place on the James Baldwin Lawn, with an evening of live music organized in partnership with local arts groups and NYC Parks.
Time: 6:00–7:30 p.m.

Bring a blanket or folding chair. Unlike a formal concert hall, nobody will complain if you arrive with sandwiches.
NYC Ska Orchestra Takes Over Bryant Park
At 7:00 p.m., Bryant Park changes from a quiet Midtown lawn into a large outdoor dance floor.
The NYC Ska Orchestra, a 20-piece ensemble, will perform a mix of ska, reggae, jazz, calypso and other Caribbean musical traditions.
The performance is presented through Bryant Park Picnic Performances and Carnegie Hall Citywide.
Time: 7:00–8:30 p.m.
Location: Bryant Park Lawn
Admission: Free; no ticket required
Visitors can bring food for a picnic or purchase dinner nearby. Arriving early is recommended because free Friday-night performances in Bryant Park often attract a large audience.
Silent Disco: Chinatown Records Time Machine
The night’s most unusual free event takes place at Lincoln Center.
Chinatown Records 華埠錄音 will present a musical journey through different generations of Cantonese and Mandarin pop music.
Participants receive wireless headphones and dance together on the plaza. To people passing without headphones, the crowd may appear to be celebrating in complete silence.

General admission is offered on a first-come, first-served basis. Lincoln Center may also offer a limited Fast Track reservation option.
It is an excellent way to finish a summer Friday: hundreds of people dancing together, while each person seems to be living inside a private soundtrack.
Paid Events on Friday Night
Phish at Madison Square Garden
Jam-band fans can spend the evening with Phish at Madison Square Garden.
The group’s summer schedule includes a five-show run at the arena, and the July 24 performance is part of that residency.

The show offers a very different Midtown experience from Bryant Park: fewer picnic blankets, more guitar solos and a significantly larger ticket bill.
New York Mets vs. Los Angeles Dodgers

It is not in Manhattan, but the No. 7 train makes Citi Field a practical option for anyone who would rather watch baseball than attend another outdoor concert.

More Events Around New York City
The citywide BTS THE CITY ARIRANG NEW YORK program begins on July 24 in connection with BTS performances at MetLife Stadium.
Related experiences may include fan gatherings, themed installations, special menus, retail events, tours and illuminated landmarks in Manhattan and Brooklyn. Some activities may be free, while others may require tickets or advance registration.
In Queens, the Thunderbird American Indian Powwow is also scheduled for the July 24–26 weekend, featuring traditional dancing, music, crafts, artwork and food.

For readers who want to experience as much as possible without spending much money, here is one possible schedule:
Morning: Tyla at Rockefeller Center

The only problem is that several evening events overlap.
That is a particularly pleasant New York problem: too many free events and not enough hours in the day.
Important Correction About The Shed
Some online event lists have mentioned a Soul Summit Music performance at The Shed on July 24.
The current official schedule does not confirm a Soul Summit event at The Shed on that date. The program found online appears to refer to different dates.
Visitors should not travel to Hudson Yards on July 24 specifically expecting that performance unless The Shed publishes an updated announcement.
Outdoor schedules may also change because of rain, extreme heat or other conditions. Check the official event page before leaving home.
